The first month I spent in Berlin with the pre-AYUSA program was amazing. Berlin, to me, is the perfect combination of past and present. I went to most of the tourist places, such as Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin Zoologischer Garten, Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor, East Side Gallery, and so many more. My German definitely improved listening and speaking the language every day.

Now I live in a small town near Düsseldorf called Haan. Haan is very peaceful and charming. My host family is great. We went to Denmark for two weeks. It was hard for me to adjust from the hustle and bustle in Berlin (and Taipei) to the quietness of a small town, but I’m getting used to it. My school started last Wednesday. I tagged along a girl in my grade. I could understand nothing except in English class. Luckily, all the people at school are very helpful and understanding. I’m going to start my new schedule next week. I’m really excited about the classes I am going to take. So far, everything turns out really well ☺
